The Swedish Police are threatening to add Pirate Bay to their child porn filters. Since all Swedish ISPs voluntarily use these filters, and these are the ISPs that relay the Pirate Bay to the rest of the world, this would effectively shut down the organization. There is, of course, a great deal of uproar about this. The police have already issued a “we’re just thinking about it, it’s not official” statement in response to the fervor. I don’t think that they’ll actually be able to pull it off, in light of the massive retribution that hackers across the world would take on the Swedish ISPs and government networks. On the Pirate Bay’s main blog the admin is already begging people to express their discontent through phone calls instead of attacks. This could get real ugly, real fast. I haven’t even checked what Digg has to say yet, lol.
